20th anniversary: My YouTube favorites

Besides music videos, I like listening to old radio bits. For example, there’s someone on YouTube who has digitalized his tape archive that contains hours and hours of radio shows from my favorite public youth station hr3 (Frankfurt, Germany). I can’t stop listening to these shows with their fantastic jocks. Also, „California airchecks“ with guys like JoJo Kincaid (who was praised even by Howard Stern) are great.

What is quite new on YouTube are combined videos with clips from a certain year in time. Be it music, commercials, news or any other show (German: WWW-Was Wann War). I wonder who spends all the time to collect them?

Moreover, I find Ellen DeGeneres’ „Hubba Hubba Quiz Quiz“ incredibly funny. What a shame that her show doesn’t exist any more.

As a drum learner, I subscribe to videos from drummers like Sina or Avery Drummer Molek. And I have used several drumless tracks for my playing.

And if you want really good German comedy, watch anything from Anke Engelke and Bastian Pastewka. No matter what they do, it’s outstanding.

I also follow some guys from English-speaking countries who regularly comment on German TV clips, especially current issue satire shows like „extra 3“ and „heute-show“. I could never have imagined people from the UK or US are laughing and saying: “Germans do have a good sense of humor!“ But they really find these shows funny.

Anyway, isn’t this the great thing about the internet, besides all the trash and negative things that it contains? You can connect to people in any country and any language, who otherwise you would never have met.

And you no more need common telephones to connect like the ones I grew up with until my 20th birthday some 25 years ago. Because, at the age of 20 in the year 2000, I got my first ever cell phone ;-).
